U17 Women World Cup Qualifier: Flamingos Beat South Africa, Progress To Next Round

Nigeria’s Flamingos defeated South Africa 2-0 in the qualifying series for 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, to reach the final stage slated for next month.

Recall that the Nigeria’s side had defeated the Bantwana 3-1 in the first leg of the clash, meaning they progressed to the next phase of the qualification race with a 5-1 aggregate victory.

The game which was played in Remo, Ogun State, produced no goal after the early exchanges. But two-goal heroine in the first leg, Harmony Chidi nodded home from an acute angle in the 37th minute on Saturday, to compound the fixture for the visitors.

Also, Shakirat Moshood, who scored a goal in the first leg, was the provider from the free kick.

Shakirat made another assist in 11 minutes into the second half when she found Aishat Animashaun, who lifted the ball over and above Samekelise Mthembu into the net for Nigeria’s second.

The victory helped Flamingos to the final round of the qualifying race, where they face the winner of the fixture between Botswana and Algeria next month.
