In a surprising turn of events, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has suspended the recently approved free bus services intended for residents across the three senatorial districts.
This decision comes just three days after the initial disclosure, which aimed to provide free transportation as part of the government’s initiatives.
Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, initially released a statement highlighting the approval of the free bus services.
However, on Wednesday, Itua issued a follow-up statement urging the public to disregard the earlier statement.

He explained that the suspension was prompted by a briefing the Governor received regarding the operational challenges facing the Edo City Transport Service (ECTS), the agency responsible for running the free bus services.
“The earlier statement announcing the approval of free bus services by the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, should be disregarded.
“The Governor is being briefed on issues surrounding the operation of the State-owned Edo City Transport Service (ECTS), operators of the free bus services. For now, the free bus services have been placed on hold. A new decision by the Governor will be communicated to the general public,” Itua stated.
