The National Assembly has issued a stern warning to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to justify its excessive expenses or risk being removed from the Federal Government’s grant.
This threat was made after JAMB’s Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, revealed that the board spent N1.1 billion on meals and refreshments, N850 million on security, cleaning, and fumigation, and N600 million on local travels in 2024.
Lawmakers questioned why a self-funding agency like JAMB should receive allocations from the Federal Government.
“You remitted N4 billion and got N6 billion from the federal government. Why not keep the N4 billion and we stop the government from funding JAMB?” Abiodun Faleke, representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, asked.

Adam Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, further criticized JAMB’s expenses, saying, “You spent N1.1 billion on meals and refreshment. Are you being freely fed by the government? What this means is that you are spending the money you generate from poor students, many of them orphans.”
“You also spent N850 million on security, cleaning and fumigation in 2024. What did you fumigate? Is it mosquitoes that took all this money,” he asked
The National Assembly also expressed concerns over the low remittances of revenues generated by ministries, departments, and agencies to the federation account.
