The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria has said the exit of GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria Plc had lowered manufacturers’ confidence for the rest of 2023.

During a recent interview on Arise TV, the Director-General of the association, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, expressed concerns over the detrimental effects of the increasing exchange rate and potential hikes in petroleum product costs on the nation’s manufacturers.

Ajayi-Kadir acknowledged the possibility that more multinational manufacturers may follow GSK through the door, leading to job losses, but expressed hope that such outcomes could be avoided.

In an earlier interview, Ajayi-Kadir noted that the volatility that trailed the floating of the naira had thrown up a number of concerns that needed to be creatively managed and redressed.
