Protests Rocks Lagos Over Hike In Price Of Goods

Some angry Lagosian on Monday, bemoaned the recent increase in the price of goods which has lead to massive suffering in the state.

The protest, which was at different locations in the state, obstructed vehicular movements with commuters trekking long distances to their destinations.

Mr Ola Phillips, a resident in Badagry area of the state, said the price increase was not rumoured but a situation the Residents were currently not happy about.

They called for the decrease in prices of goods, lamenting that the state was already confronted with lots of challenges and an increment to prices of goods would further subject them to hardship and possibly push many to premature death.

Supreme Court Judge Dies At 61

A Justice of the Supreme Court, Centus Chima Nweze, has died at 64.

Mr Nweze, who still had six years before attaining the statutory retirement age of 70, died on Sunday, according to Supreme Court sources.

The circumstances of his death are unclear, as the Supreme Court has yet to make an official announcement.

Uyo NBA elects new chairperson

The Uyo Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), on Friday, elected Augustine Udoh as its new chairperson.

He succeeds the outgone chairperson of the association, Ememobong Nicholas.

Mr Udoh defeated his rival, Emmanuel Archibong to emerge as the winner of the election which has been adjudged to be peaceful, free and fair.

The NBA 1st National Vice President, Linda Bala, who represented the President of the NBA, Yakubu Maikyau, witnessed the election.

Mr Udoh, in his inaugural speech, said he is committed to accountability and transparency in the running of the association. He promised to promote human rights advocacy and public interest litigation, and the training of lawyers in the branch.

He also promised to complete the branch secretariat building and equip it with modern facilities, as well as establish a library and research centre for lawyers.

The new chairperson appealed for support from members, while urging the branch to remain united.

Four die, 10 injured in Jigawa auto crash – FRSC

About four persons died, while 10 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in an accident involving two vehicles on Gumel-Kano Road in Jigawa.

Mr Ibrahim Gambo, the Spokesman of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, confirmed the accident in a Road Traffic Report (RTC), in Dutse on Monday.

He told NAN that the accident occurred at about 12:25 a.m. when a bus had a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle at Achauya village in Gumel Local Government Area of the state.

“A commercial bus (Sharon) with registration number

GML 260 XX carrying passengers was involved in a collision with a truck with registration number GUS 648 XA coming from the opposite direction.

“It could be attributed to speed violation and loss of control, 14 persons, consisting of 11 males and three females, were involved in the crash,” he said.
