Being a Monarch, Didn’t Affect my Productivity as Lecturer in University — Olota of Ota Says

Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege, Olota of Ota has spoken on his dual roles as monarch and lecturer in one of the private Universities in Nigeria.

In an exclusive interview the monarch had with BBC News Yoruba, the monarch, Oba Obalanlege said representing a traditional institution as a monarch in Ogun State and working as a lecturer has been result-oriented for the town and gown. 

The monarch, who is a Professor of Journalism, teaches at Crescent University, Abeokuta. Oba Obalanlege said he has been part of academics before he becomes monarch. He said it would be difficult for him to abandon what he has been doing for years for traditional stool alone.

While revealing his motive for lecturing job, the monarch remarked that giving back to society has been part of him for years. 

Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege attended Ogun State Polytechnic, now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta for Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mass Communication. 

He worked briefly at Lagos State University before moving onto Crescent University, Abeokuta as Mass Communication lecturer. 

Oba Obalanlege said his focus now is on doctorate students of the institution. 

He advised youths to be of good character, work hard and remain focused in life. 

The Head of Department (HOD), Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Kola Adeshina said Prof. Obalanlege remains committed to his work despite his schedule as a monarch and lecturer.
