The President-elect, Bola Tinubu, who would be sworn-in in a few hours, said yesterday he didn’t need the commonwealth of Nigeria to survive but was more concerned about using it to do the right thing.

Tinubu, who spoke at an inter-denominational church service held to mark Nigeria’s 7th consecutive democratic transition in Abuja, was responding to the admonition of the Presiding Archbishop, Dominion Chapel International Churches, Most Rev Jonhpraise Daniel, who called on him to prioritise the harnessing of the energy, creativity and potentials of Nigerian youths in restoring the nation’s prosperity.

The president-elect, who was represented by his wife, Oluremi said, “This is the time for Nigeria to come together to be renewed in our hope again; to hope in Nigeria.

“Nigeria’s wealth is the commonwealth of all. It belongs to everyone. God has blessed my family that we don’t need the wealth of Nigeria to survive but to do the right thing. We need your prayers.

“We’ve been bruised. Our bodies are no longer the same again. But once the spirit of God is in us, we will do the right thing, by the grace of God.

“I pray for this nation. Nigeria will be prosperous and it will grow in leaps and bounds. Nigeria will be the cynosure of all eyes and it will take its place among the comity of nations.”

Middle Belt Leaders Write Tinubu, Endorse Lalong For SGF

The Renewed Middle Belt Forum (RMBF) has endorsed the outgoing Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong, for the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) in the incoming administration.

The forum, in a May 22 letter to the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, and co-signed by its president, Bala Mohammed, and Secretary-General, Dr Abu James Abu, said it came to the conclusion after a thorough analysis of all the qualified sons and daughters of the Middle Belt and their impact on governance.

The group said that Lalong stood out because of his loyalty, impeccable track record, experience, and pedigree, adding that he would ensure that Tinubu fulfilled every promise he made to Nigerians.

RMBF also said the appointment would quell the tension among the Christians over the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket and the marginalisation of the Middle Belt.

“May 29 (inauguration day) will be historic in so many ways and we believe this will be the beginning of a new dawn for the nation.

“We are confident that this administration will hit the ground running immediately with the appointments of cabinet members.

Buhari Apologises As Tinubu Takes Oath Of Office Today

AS President Muhammadu Buhari leaves office today, he has apologised to Nigerians over some decisions he took that brought pains and sufferings to the citizenry.

However, Buhari, who will hand over to President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, today, gave himself a pass mark, saying he is leaving Nigeria better than he met it in 2015.

This was even as he regretted that his administration was unable to rescue some children still in captivity and said he mourned with parents, friends and relatives of all those who lost loved ones as a result of senseless brigandage and carnage.

Buhari said these in his farewell speech to Nigerians as he bowed out of office after eight years in charge of Nigeria’s affairs.

The out-going president spoke amid high expectations and demands as Tinubu takes over, with the Yoruba Council of Elders, YCE, outlining reasons Tinubu must restructure the country without delay.

This was as the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, scored Buhari very low in tackling insecurity but commended him on infrastructure, completion of the Second Niger Bridge and approval of Lux Mundi University, with Elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, describing Buhari as Nigeria’s worst president.
