Today’s Headlines: Asari Dokubo leads pro-Tinubu group to Supreme Court, Falana Sues Army Staff, Others

A support group of Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s president-elect, have arrived at the Supreme Court in Abuja ahead of Friday’s judgement on a suit seeking Mr Tinubu’s disqualification as a presidential candidate and his scheduled swearing-in as president on 29 May.

The group comprising young people gathered at the Bullet Junction near the Supreme Court.

A Niger Delta ex-militant, Asari Dokubo, was seen among the group.

Mr Dokubo who has been a vocal supporter of the president-elect, sat on a rock while the protesters were gyrating around him.

The demonstrators carried placards declaring their support for Mr Tinubu.

“On Bola Tinubu mandate we stand,” one of the placards read.

Falana Sues Army Staff, Others

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has filed a lawsuit against the Chief of Army Staff over “the extra-judicial killing of Inspector Monday Orukpe at the Trade Fair section of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway Area of Lagos State in August 2022 in the course of his official duties”.

Joined in the suit as respondents are 10 other army officers.

The suit was filed on Thursday on behalf of Mrs Favour Monday for the enforcement of her husband’s fundamental human rights to life, the dignity of the human person, private and family life and presumption of innocence.

Mrs Monday has four children with Inspector Monday Orukpe: Divine Monday (15 years old), Emmanuel Monday (12 years old), Praise Monday and Covenant Monday (one year old).

Wike Dissolves State Executive Council

GOVERNOR Nyesom Wike has dissolved the Rivers State Executive Council with gratitude to members for their service to the state.

Wike who announced the development at the Council’s special valedictory session in Government House, Port Harcourt Thursday, directed all commissioners to hand over government property in their custody to the permanent secretaries or most senior director in their respective ministries.

To the cabinet members, Wike said, “Everybody is saying today we have done well. No one person did well, everybody did well. The governor alone cannot be in charge everywhere. The governor needs people who will work for him. All he does from time to time id find out whether things are moving on well or not.

Gunmen invade Imo community, kill monarch, one other

There is confusion in the Orsu Obodo Community in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State as unidentified gunmen invaded the area Thursday, killing the traditional ruler of the community, HRH Eze Victor Ijioma.

The traditional prime minister of the Mgbele community, Isama of Mgbele, was also assassinated in the same Oguta LGA.

DAILY POST gathered that the two leaders were slain in separate strikes on Thursday in different cities.

The Orsu Obodo monarch, according to community sources, was assassinated inside his car at Umuamaka Junction in the neighboring town of Izombe.
