WAEC goes tough on malpractice, asks Nigerians to report cases of examination irregularities

Following many cases and complaints of malpractice in the various examinations it conducts, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has urged Nigerians to report cases of examination irregularities in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate examination.

WAEC has been under constant criticisms over the various examinations conducted for students in the country, with allegations of buying examination papers, paying for marks, among others, trailing the examination body.

But apparently in order to redeem its image, the examination body in Nigeria disclosed that citizens should report cases of examination malpractice and irregularities to it and such reports would be treated accordingly.

WAEC disclosed this on its Twitter handle @waecnigeria, where it said cases of irregularities in the ongoing WASSCE for school candidates should be forwarded to a WhatsApp number provided which the examination body said is strictly for reporting only examination irregularities.

WAEC promised that such reported cases would be treated with confidentiality while culprits would be sanctioned appropriately.

WAEC conducts examinations for secondary school students in Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone and The Gambia.
