At a recent Impact Academy, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, addressed the youth live from Accra, Ghana. Even if they had been leading a wayward life, he discussed the importance for them to establish a solid foundation for their lives. He then revealed what his teacher said about him to his classmates after marking his mathematics script.
He said, “When I got to the High School, I quickly found birds of the same feather; I quickly found the miscreants in my school; I quickly found those who had no future, purpose and things they want to achieve. We became friends and we talk about the teacher, his intonation, everything he was doing and we looked down on him. It didn’t hurt the teacher because he had his education and certificate already. It was hurting us.”
“I had nothing to write about in class one. They used to divide Mathematics into Arithmetic, Algebra, and Geometry, but I saw that I only scored, say, 24 percent in Algebra, 12 percent or so in Arithmetic, and 0 with a dot in Geometry. I merely laughed with my friend about it because it didn’t disturb me. I lacked any motivation and was idle.
“Then I woke up, and said that I needed the main foundation. I said pranks, no more; lying, no more; laziness, no more and in 1958, I can still see myself in the class. I could still see the algebra teacher that came and he gave us six sums. And I said I’m not going to be as I was. I did it and I was serious. I never found myself so serious like that before.”
“After we turned in our paper, our teacher started marking it. He offered me 17 for each of them, and I got them all. When he arrived in class to give us our papers, he handed them to the other students while I waited, convinced that I had failed once more. My name was then announced, and he said, “This boy is a mathematician.” I realized that day that the major foundation of my life had been laid. I confessed my sins and later experienced rebirth.”
Finally, he said, “I am calling you today, my sons and my daughters, let’s lay the main Foundation of your life. All those things you enjoy by wondering about let’s abandon them and you will become an expert in the field you have chosen in Jesus name.
