Today’s Headlines:Lagos PDP Denies Suspending Party Chair, Doguwa Wins Reelection Into House Of Reps

Members of the executive council of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ward E, Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State, have denied the letter which purportedly suspended the state party chairman, Philip Aivoji.

This was disclosed in a press statement jointly signed by the ward chairman, Jamiu Boglo, and the secretary, Mr Homakon Mautin, and other members of the ward executive council on Saturday.

They described the letter as fake and malicious, warning those behind it to desist from such as their action had criminal implications.

The statement read, “Our attention has been drawn to a malicious and false letter purportedly from the executive council members of Ward E, Keta-West, Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State, suspending the party’s state chairman, Honourable Philip Olabode Aivoji, and we were surprised to read such a letter in the media.

“We the incumbent and the authentic Ward E exco members of Keta-West, Badagry Local Government Area, whose names appeared on the said letter of suspension, but whose signatures were forged, hereby unequivocally refute signing of any letter of suspension.”

The statement also called on the Department of State Services, the police, and other security operatives to investigate and unmask those behind the writing and forgery of the signatures of the ward E executives.”

The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Doguwa, has been declared the winner of the Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency election in Kano.

The Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Sani Ibrahim, who announced the results on Saturday, said the lawmaker secured 41,573 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Yushau Salisu of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, who got 34,831 votes.

The Saturday supplementary election was held in eight wards in Tudunwada LGA.

INEC had announced Doguwa as the winner of the February 25 election for the federal constituency but later declared it inconclusive.

There were reports of overvoting and disruption of voting in some polling units in the area.

At the time the election was declared inconclusive, Doguwa was leading with 39,732 votes while Salisu had 34,798 votes.

Doguwa will be serving his fifth term when the 10th assembly is inaugurated in June.

Athan Achonu, a former senator has won the Labour Party (LP) governorship ticket in Imo state.

Achonu won at the governorship election primary held in Owerri, the capital of Imo on Saturday.

Calistus Ihejiagwa, the returning officer, announced that Achonu scored 134 votes to beat his closest rival Jack Ogunewe, a retired major general, who scored 121 votes.

“Athan Achonu, having certified the requirements by polling the highest number of votes in the primary exercise, is hereby returned as the Imo governorship of the Labour Party,” Ihejiagwa said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Rep. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, the APC candidate, as the winner of the Oluyole Federal Constituency election.

Prof. Jacob Olaniyi, the Returning Officer, announced Akande-Sadipe as the winner on Saturday evening in Ibadan, at the end of the supplementary election held in two polling units in the constituency.

According to him, Akande-Sadipe scored 14, 891 to defeat her closest rival, Mr Abdul-Mojeed Mogbonjubola of PDP, who scored 13,073.

The returning officer said, “Tolulope Akande-Sadipe of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Akande-Sadipe is currently representing the Oluyole Federal Constituency at the House.
