Gary Lineker is not an unfamiliar name in the football world. In fact, he is widely regarded as one of England’s greatest players of all time. A striker, he scored a total of 329 goals in 647 appearances for both club and country.
Lineker began his professional career at Leicester City in 1978, having been promoted from the club’s youth ranks. He scored 103 goals in 216 appearances for Leicester City. He then moved to Everton where he scored 38 goals in 52 games.
After that, he left England for La Liga side Barcelona and is one of the few English players who have played in La Liga. At Barcelona, he scored 52 goals in 137 appearances.
Lineker returned to England in 1989 and scored 80 goals in 138 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur. At club level, he last played for Japanese side Nagoya Grampus, where he scored 8 goals in 24 appearances. At international level, he scored 48 goals in 80 appearances for England.
One of the most surprising about him is the fact that he never received a yellow or red card in his 16-year career where he played a total of 647 games. It’s almost impossible to imagine another playing having such record with such number of games played.
