The United States Supreme Court ruled on Thursday, 23rd June 2022, that the citizens of America have a fundamental right to own and carry guns in public in a landmark decision that came just weeks after another ugly mass shooting in school, PUNCH reports.
According to PUNCH, “the 6-3 ruling cleared a New York law that required a person to prove that they had legitimate self-defense needs to receive a gun permit and will prevent states from restricting citizens carrying guns in public”.
Despite the majority demands to stop citizens of America from owing guns after two deadly mass shooting in May 2022, the United States Supreme Court sided with advocates who agued that the United States constitution permits citizens to own and carry guns in public.
According to PUNCH, the ruling by the United States Supreme Court is the first by the court in a major Second Amendment case in 10years. It is also a huge win and celebration for the powerful gun lobby, the National Rifle Association (NRA).
