The Super Eagles of Nigeria kicked off their 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers with a 2-1 victory over Sierra Leone.
Victor Osimhen and Alex Iwobi were on the score sheet for the Super Eagles as new manager Jose Peseiro got his first victory in charge of the Nigerian national team.
There were a lot of positives from the game, with Ola Aina, Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon, and Joe Aribo all putting in a fine performance.
Nigeria fell behind in the 11th minute after some miscommunication between Uzoho and Ekong allowed Morsay to pounce on a loose ball in the penalty box. However, the Eagles showed great mental strength to come from behind and turn the game around.
The victory takes them up to second place in group A of the African Cup of Nations qualifiers, with the Super Eagles, behind Guinea Bissau, who defeated Sao Tome and Principe 5-1 on Thursday.
