Steps on how to make Kunu drink

Kunu drink is a very popular drink among the northerners in Nigeria. It is made from whole grains of millet, sorghum or corn. It is high in nutrient;rich in protein and fiber. It is also rich in vitamins and minerals. The procedure for preparing this drink is quite straightforward but it can take two to three days.

INGREDIENTS

Three cups of de hulled millet

A medium size peeled sweet potatoe(optional)

Two medium size peeled ginger

A tablespoon of cloves

Sugar for taste

Water

STEPS

1. Soak the seed for 48 hours to allow them ferment. Keep changing the water after Every 7 hours.

2. Wash the millet seed with clean water. Add the ginger, cloves,sweet potato.

3. Blend all together until you get a smooth paste. Keep adding water as you blend for smoothness

NB: You can make use of a grinding mill or a blender with Sharp blades.

4. Sieve the paste thoroughly and leave it to settle for 7 hours. You will notice that a clear fluid will be above and the thick sediment at the bottom.

5. Pour the clear fluid away and leave only the thick sediment. Divide the thick paste into two separate bowls. Add hot water into each bowl after mixing well. Then stir.

6. Mix the two separated together again. Then stir. Keep adding hot water while stirring until you achieve the thickness of choice.

7. Sieve again to remove chaff.

8. Add sugar to sweeten it’s taste

9. Refrigerate and serve chilled.

It could be served at events or occasions.
