Birthday present. Through a press release, adidas announced a collaboration between Y-3 and Real Madrid to celebrate 120 years of Casa Blanca, while at the same time, the partnership between the brand of Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto and the the three-stripe one is entering its 20th year.

The union between Y-3 and Real Madrid thus gives birth to a “commemorative collection comprising a series of clothing and accessories intended for use on and off the pitch”as stated by adidas.

A “dark” 4th jersey

Among this new special collection, we find in particular the fourth shirt of the club of the Spanish capital. Y-3 has thus imagined a fourth all-black tunic, respecting Yohji Yamamoto’s vision, to which are added a few touches of white (the three stripes at the shoulders, the Real and Y-3 logo, as well as the jersey sponsor).

Note that Thibaut Courtois was given a pink outfit, also incorporating white. Special feature of this new Real Madrid jersey: the numbers and names of the players are “hand painted”, to use the terms of adidas, which brings a dynamic and original touch. We also find the presence, at the bottom left, of a special label with the Madrid crest, the Y-3 logo and the signature of Yohji Yamamoto.

The Clásico as the first playground?

“The on-pitch collection includes a warm-up top, accompanied by the Light Shell Anthem Jacket and Pants, both featuring reflective striping and laser-cut detailing”adds the German firm.

This new jersey, which Carlo Ancelotti’s men could wear this weekend against FC Barcelona during the Clásico, is reminiscent of Real’s third tunic, with its dragon, in 2014-2015. The result, too, of a collaboration between the Japanese brand and the White House.

This new collection, available on the official adidas website for example, is accompanied by an advertising campaign called “The Ceremony”, with a video clip in which Iker Casillas, legend of the residents of Santiago-Bernabéu, takes part in particular.
