The 30-year-old officer allegedly killed the three children following a disagreement with his wife.

The bodies of the four, including Okebe’s 6-year-old son, 5-year-old daughter, and his 5-year-old brother-in-law’s child, were found at the rural home in Karachuonyo.

Speaking in a report by Citizen TV, Homa Bay police commandant Laurence Koilem confirmed the incident, noting that the officer, who was based in Marsabit, had domestic issues that he suspected could have led to his death.

Okebe’s brother, Collins Goga, noted that the deceased and his family had unresolved issues that had accumulated over time.

“The issues were not able to be solved from either side, especially from the in-laws, from whom he really sought advice and support,” said Goga.

He further described the 30-year-old as a good man who wanted the best for everyone, despite being somewhat reserved with his personal issues.

“He was a hardworking man, very ambitious, and he wanted to support everyone within his circle,” stated the grieving brother.

As the family grapples with the immense loss, police officers have begun investigations into the matter.

The bodies of the four were moved to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary.

Netizens express mixed reactions to Homa Bay incident

Social media users expressed a variety of opinions on the incident, with some blaming the officer’s bosses for not offering adequate support, while others highlighted the pressures faced by police officers.

Cessy Chengo:

“The young man seems like he had kept a lot to himself. Girls, if you don’t want to get married and settle with your man, stay with your mother… and stop involving innocent children in your matters.”

Cate Wambu:

“I blame his bosses. When an officer gets stressed, they become stubborn, and the bosses are quick to transfer them to hardship areas instead of talking to them and offering counselling. As we speak, I know someone who is depressed and has been transferred four times in the last two months. When I see them in the morning, I always say, ‘Thank you, God.’”

Shilla Chepkoech:

“Someone should talk to Njoroge as well; the work pressure must be a lot for him too. As for the parents, if someone is not good enough for your child, don’t frustrate them in any way. Officer Koros, may you learn to treat people well. You have kids, and they will one day be under someone, too. To the wife, karma will catch up soon for not respecting your marriage.”

Sam Martin:

“Police welfare must be checked, otherwise, police officers are going through a lot.”
