Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has issued a strong warning to the Nation Media Group over a cartoon published in the Sunday Nation on March 16, 2025.
The lawmaker is demanding an apology before Monday, March 17, or he will take legal action against the media house.
Kaluma expressed his anger on social media, saying, “I hope Nation Africa knows what this means and will mean to their purse if they don’t apologize by tomorrow.”
He further advised the media company to check with the Standard Group about previous legal rulings on similar matters.
“They have up to tomorrow to cross-check with the Standard Group the court determinations, fines, and pending actions on these matters they are lazily repeating and apologize before it is late,” he added.
The editorial cartoon, which sparked the controversy, was accompanied by a headline calling Kaluma a “rabblerousing MP not relieving pain in social media, House antics.”
The piece also labeled him “an interesting man, one worth a mention or two in the annals of ‘clownism’.”
Reacting to the publication, Kaluma warned, “The Nation Media Group is provoking war with me this Lent season—okay, we will see!”
This is not the only issue the Sunday Nation faced on the same day.
Another report in the newspaper claimed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had stated that he saved President William Ruto from a military coup.
This statement led to outrage among ODM leaders, who accused the media house of misquoting Odinga.
Senator Samson Cherargei was one of the first leaders to respond.
“Nation Media is either becoming sensational or they are misquoting PM Odinga on the issue of a military coup against H.E. Ruto’s government,” he stated.
Cherargei urged Odinga to take action. “PM Odinga must demand an apology or sue them for this non-objective reporting.
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is the most disciplined and non-partisan institution.
Dragging them into such serious accusations is malicious, uncouth, and unacceptable,” he said.
So far, the Nation Media Group has not responded to Kaluma’s demands.
The coming hours will determine whether they choose to apologize or stand by their editorial content.
