According to TV47, all is not well in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following President Ruto’s signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Raila Odinga. It is reported that Orengo, a longtime close ally of Raila and someone who has rarely been absent from his side, was notably missing during the signing of the MoU.
Sources indicate that Orengo was blocked by Raila’s close allies who were strong proponents of the handshake. It is said that the Siaya Governor made several attempts to reach Raila, as he was reportedly against the agreement and wanted to persuade him otherwise. However, sensing his opposition, he was deliberately prevented from meeting Raila before the deal was signed. Despite his efforts to access the ODM leader, he encountered obstacles at every turn. Only after the deal had been finalized was he allowed to meet Raila.
Since the signing of the MoU, Orengo has remained silent. This has prompted Nyanza MPs to urge him to publicly declare his stance on the agreement.
Orengo is not the only ODM leader affected by this development. Reports suggest that other ODM leaders, particularly those from Nairobi, were also sidelined. Many of them were absent during President Ruto’s recent tour of Nairobi. In contrast, some ODM leaders have openly expressed their support for Ruto following the agreement.
Notably, ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi have maintained a low profile. During the signing, Sifuna was visibly uneasy, with his demeanor suggesting opposition to the deal. However, despite his apparent reluctance, he still went ahead and oversaw the agreement.
