At the time of her dad’s death, Rachael had flown to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia for a union fellowship.

“As much as he was sick, It did not occur to me that this day would come,” Rachel said.

In her speech, Rachael also shared that her father was concerned about them even after his first surgery.

How did Chebukati fight cancer?

“I asked him how he was feeling after having something removed from his head. He asked me how was your presentation? Had you prepared for it?,” said Rachael who answered that it went well.

“Our dad wanted us to proceed with our lives and just continue being better. Even after he was given a few months to live, I recall him saying this sickness was not going to beat him; he would fight it and he did. He started a home gym and would exercise morning and evening,” she added.

Racahel also said that Chebukati was taking medicines in time and eating healthy; he beat it for a while until it recurred in November 2023.

How did family care for Chebukati abroad?

Although the former IEBC boss was fighting cancer and the tumour had recurred he still went to international conferences because it was not big enough to be removed.

The family decided that one of them would always be accompany him for the international assignments.

Although Chebukati was only given six months by the doctor, he pushed himself for 20 months. In portugal, he gave a good presentation, but Racahel said she certainly looked tired.

“During the last days, he woke up but was a bit stiff and had a seizure; my brother and I Google that when this happens you are supposed to increase the seizure medicine . The next day the doctor said you guys did what I would have done.

“In February 2025, when he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit my bro and I were so confident that he would come out,” she said.

“Daddy, rest well. As much as you have been sick for sometime, you would expect it to be easier but it is hard. I guess he needed to rest, maybe I didn’t take that into consideration; I just wanted him to be here,” she said while breaking down.

Rachael says they didn’t make Chebukati a granddad

Ina nother . What I want for you to take from this, my dad was not just a father, he was the best father anyone could ask for. You would want him to be there to see your grandchildren. That’s one thing my brothers, and I were not able to give them. My future children, his nephews and nieces. They will know his legacy and who he is and yeah… I don’t know how to conclude I will say to daddy, rest well as much as you were sick it’s still hard and maybe you needed to rest maybe I did not take that into consideration I just want him to be here….”
