NARC-Kenya has officially rebranded as the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), in a move aimed at rejuvenating its political image and appealing to the younger generation.
Party leader Martha Karua announced the change, stating that it reflects a forward-looking, people-centered agenda built on the pillars of unity, transparency, and accountability.
What are Martha Karua’s new party colours?
While it has acquired a fresh identity, PLP retains its identity as a flower-themed party. The party’s former symbol, a green rose, has been replaced with a purple rose, symbolising love, friendship, and peace.

“We have introduced new colours, purple, lilac, and white; while maintaining our identity as a flower party,” Karua explained.
Reflecting on the party slogan, Karua emphasised the need for national unity to address Kenya’s pressing issues.
“We need to come together as Kenyans—unite and liberate. We must have unity in purpose to clean up the mess that has become our country and return it to the rule of law, to a nation that truly serves its people,” she declared.
Why has NARC-Kenya transformed into People’s Liberation Party?
Speaking ahead of the party’s official launch, Karua emphasised that the new name is designed to resonate more deeply with Kenyans.
“It is our belief that this name speaks directly to you. Yes, we need to liberate ourselves—from bad practices, economic wars, social conflicts, security challenges, and education inequalities. We need to liberate ourselves,” Karua said.
NARC-Kenya, which was founded nearly two decades ago, has struggled to maintain relevance among younger voters. According to Karua, the shift to PLP is a deliberate attempt to revitalise the party’s appeal and reaffirm its commitment to democratic values.
She noted that PLP is not merely a political entity but a movement for change aimed at liberating Kenyans from economic, social, and political challenges.
Karua reiterated that the name was chosen to reflect this mission, emphasising its relevance to the struggles and aspirations of ordinary Kenyans.
“It is a name that speaks directly to you. We need to liberate ourselves from bad practices, economic wars, social conflicts, security challenges, and educational inequalities.This is not just about political power; it’s about transforming Kenya into a nation that truly serves its people,” Karua stated.
Is PLP a youths’ party?
Karua noted the importance of engaging the youth, who make up the majority of Kenya’s population. She stressed that the party belongs to them and that they will play a central role in shaping its direction.
“The real stakeholders are the majority, and in this country—as in most countries across Africa—the majority are the youth. It is only fair that the youth be at the center stage of directing affairs in the country,” she said.
PLP is positioning itself as a youth-centric party, with young people already occupying top leadership roles. Karua promised that more youth would be involved as decision-makers as the party grows.
“The youth are already part of the party’s top leadership, and you will see more and more becoming involved because the party is going to become more vibrant.We will reveal many more organisations within the party, and the youth are going to be involved as decision-makers,” she said.
The rebrand comes just weeks after Karua met with former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, where they vowed to work together ahead of the 2027 General Election.
