Njiraini urged that voters need to look beyond tribal affiliations and instead focus on the visions and manifestos of individual leaders.

He expressed concern that a huge number of Kenyans continue to support tribal politics, often at the expense of electing leaders who genuinely aim to drive national development and progress.

Njiraini pointed out a recurring trend in Kenyan politics where, despite calls for good leadership, tribal loyalties dominate electoral decisions.

“People often say that we need good leaders like so and so. This usually happens after elections. But before the elections, people switch to serious tribal politics, and end up with the saying ‘it’s just a two-horse race,’ leaving us feeling powerless and hopeless,” he said.

His remarks point to a cyclical pattern in Kenya’s elections, where the electorate’s hopes for transformative leadership are hindered by entrenched tribal allegiances, which ultimately limit the pool of potential visionary leaders.

What did Iain Njiraini tell Kenyans ahead of the 2027 polls?

As the 2027 General Election approach, Njiraini urged Kenyans to be assertive and steadfast in supporting leaders who genuinely resonate with their aspirations and values.

He emphasised that meaningful change can only be achieved when voters rally behind visionary leaders all the way to the ballot box, without wavering due to tribal dynamics or political pressure.

“We need to be assertive and rally behind the leaders we believe in, all the way to the ballot box, because the leadership we get reflects who we are as a people,” he added.
