Many Kenyans had anticipated that the president would comment on the impeachment, especially since he was accompanied by his nominee, Kithure Kindiki, despite court orders prohibiting the nomination.

Who did Ruto praise during Mashujaa Day?

During his speech, however, Ruto focused on national heroes, such as Mekatilili wa Menza, emphasising their role in representing the entire country.

He noted that these heroes and heroines united to resist colonialism and fought for independence, advocating for a decentralised form of governance, an early form of devolution.

Ruto praised Mekatilili for her broader vision of opposing colonialism, one that went beyond uniting only her community.

Why was Rigathi Gachagua impeached?

Notably, Gachagua was impeached after Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse presented 11 charges against him, including accusations of promoting tribal politics through his campaign for Mt. Kenya unity.

Gachagua, who is still hospitalized after experiencing severe chest pain during his impeachment trial, addressed the nation through his X account.

Neither he nor his wife were present at the celebration, and no message from him was read during the event.
