[VIDEO] Why Customers Fought Inside Chinese Mall Along Thika Road

The management of China Square Mall, now the talk of town, has explained what led to a fight between some shoppers.

China Square is located at Unicity Mall along Thika superhighway. It sits on a property owned by the Kenyatta University (KU).

And as Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria demands the property to be handed back to Kenyans, it has emerged there was chaos on Tuesday.

According to the management, a male customer apparently in a hurry wanted to be served before other patient buyers.

He jumped the queue and was stopped by a brave lady who asked him why he though he was a special buyer.

The man started beating the lady and in no time he was beaten by other customers before security men cornered him.

He was ejected out of the mall and handed to police.

China Square which opened a branch there recently after the property stayed empty for long is said to be the cheapest supermarket in Nairobi and its environs.

Kenyans have been flocking there to buy all manner of items at relatively cheaper prices at a time prices of basic and other items has skyrocketed.

While many have welcomed the establishment, other traders feel it will push them out of business.

It is for this reason CS Kuria wants the foreigner investor pushed out of the business.

Kuria has since urged KU Vice Chancellor Prof Paul Wainaina to buy out the lease given to the Chinese businesspeople.

Kuria wants the mall be handed to small scale traders.

Trade CS Moses Kuria wants to eject the mall investor.

Word has it that small traders in Gikomba, Eastleigh, Luthuli and Kamukunji, majority of them Kikuyus are planning to hold a protest outside the Chinese mall.
