Mudavadi Breaks Silence, Says Pres Ruto Was Not Denied a Candle During Pope’s Burial

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has dismissed claims that President William Ruto was denied a candle during Pope Francis’ burial ceremony.

Speaking to the media, Mudavadi rubbished the rumours, saying no head of state was given a candle during the service, and no candles were lit at all.

He attributed the reports to misinformation likely pushed by individuals for their own political agenda.

“I think there was a Member of Parliament somewhere who was talking about candles being lit and given to leaders, only for the candles to go out. It was in broad daylight. You don’t need candles in broad daylight, and no candles were lit,” said Mudavadi.

He further explained that allowing candles in such a high-profile event could pose a security risk, especially with many world leaders present.

“In fact, it would be a security threat if you were lighting fire where there are all those heads of state,” he stated.

Mudavadi added that no single Head of State, including President Ruto, was treated unfairly or excluded in any way.

He emphasized that the claims are baseless and should be treated as political propaganda.

The controversy began after an unnamed MP claimed that President Ruto was denied a candle during the religious rites at the burial, sparking online discussions and public confusion.

Mudavadi’s clarification comes amid rising political tensions and increasing scrutiny of the government’s image in both local and international events.

As misinformation spreads fast online, the Prime CS urged Kenyans to be cautious and avoid falling for false narratives meant to divide or discredit the country’s leadership.
