New information about Margaret Nduta, the Kenyan woman sentenced to death in Vietnam, has caused fresh talks. Many people have been wondering “Is Nduta really alive?” after several weeks of silence.
Member of Parliament Sabina Chege said that the Kenyan government helped Nduta after learning she did not have a lawyer during her trial. She explained that the government spoke to Vietnamese authorities and managed to stop her planned execution.
Chege said that Margaret Nduta’s case was appealed, giving her a chance to defend herself properly. Nduta claimed she was tricked by a man who promised to pay her for delivering a bag to another country.

Nduta was arrested in July 2023 with more than two kilograms of cocaine in her luggage while traveling to Laos. She told police that she did not know there were drugs hidden inside the bag.
Chege blamed fake agents who take advantage of Kenyans looking for jobs outside the country for what happened to Nduta. She said there is a need for stronger rules to deal with such agents and protect innocent people.
Some reports also said a preacher once linked Nduta to a past case in Ghana, but no clear evidence has been given. Chege defended Nduta, saying it was her first time traveling and her simple life showed she was not a drug smuggler.
The question about whether Nduta is alive still remains, but her case is now being followed closely. Many people are waiting to see if she will be brought back home.
