Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has slammed former President Uhuru Kenyatta over his latest remarks about youth and governance. Murkomen accused Uhuru of hypocrisy, saying he is now pretending to have sudden wisdom after leaving office.
Speaking during the Jukwaa la Usalama event in Machakos, Murkomen mocked Uhuru for lecturing young Africans on fighting for good governance. He pointed out that Uhuru had barely left office and was already acting like a hero.
“You were President just yesterday, and the ink you used to sign documents has not even dried,” Murkomen said. He laughed off Uhuru’s remarks and said it was unfair for him to incite young people against the government.
Murkomen warned that leaders must not exploit young people for political gain. He stressed that youth issues need serious solutions, not political games.
He also noted that President William Ruto’s government is focused on tackling unemployment among the youth.
According to Murkomen, the youth bulge is not new and needs urgent action. He said the Ruto government is working hard to attract investors from abroad to create more jobs for young Kenyans.
Meanwhile, while speaking in Uganda, Uhuru urged African youth to rise up and lead positive change.
He said young people have the numbers, the energy, and the time to fix Africa’s leadership problems. Uhuru described the youth as the new freedom fighters of the continent.
He emphasized the need for integrity, self-reliance, and merit-based governance. He warned that Africans must solve their problems because the world is becoming more inward-looking.
Back in Kenya, Murkomen also addressed concerns about Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka joining the broad-based government.
He welcomed Kalonzo, saying the doors are open for him to join without waiting until 2027.
On other matters, Murkomen clarified that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Public Service CS Justin Muturi are not under investigation.
He said adherence to the Secrecy Act remains important, but no political witch-hunt is ongoing.
The heated exchanges between Murkomen and Uhuru have added fresh drama to Kenya’s political scene.
Many Kenyans are now watching closely to see how this war of words will shape future alliances.
