Ruto Must Go Chants High In Kakamega Today As Angry Residents Stage Maandamano Over Ruto’s Failed Promises

There was drama in Shinyalu on Monday morning after angry residents took to the streets in protest, blocking a major road and bringing transport to a standstill for hours.

Chanting “Ruto must go,” the residents expressed their anger over what they described as continued neglect and broken promises by the government. They accused President William Ruto of failing to deliver on key pledges made during the campaign period.

The protesters, carrying placards and tree branches, lit bonfires on the road and refused to let vehicles pass. Many said they were tired of high living costs, unemployment, and lack of development in the area.

“We voted with hope, but now we are suffering more than before. Prices of basic goods are too high, and our youth have no jobs,” said one protester. “We feel betrayed.”

Police officers were deployed to calm the situation and later cleared the road, but the residents vowed to continue protesting until their concerns are addressed. No injuries were reported during the protests, but the heavy presence of anti-riot police kept tensions high.

Local leaders have urged the government to listen to the people’s cries and engage with them directly.

The protest is one of many recently seen in different parts of the country, as frustration grows over the rising cost of living and slow pace of development.

Residents are now calling for immediate action and accountability from the national government before the situation gets worse.
