A new wave of rebellion has emerged within the Kenya Kwanza Alliance after Ford Kenya, led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, announced plans to sponsor its own candidates in upcoming by-elections as it gears up for the 2027 General Election.
This comes as the coalition already faces internal turmoil sparked by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former DP leader Justin Muturi, and ex-Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera of Farmers Party.
Gachagua is set to launch a new party next month, while Muturi and Nyakera’s parties have begun the process of exiting Kenya Kwanza. Ford Kenya has also firmly stated that it will not merge with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), led by President William Ruto, insisting it will remain an independent party.
Ford Kenya Secretary-General John Chikati affirmed that the party’s National Executive Council resolved to remain autonomous and will sponsor candidates in the Malava, Ugunja, and Banissa by-elections as part of its 2027 strategy.
