Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has publicly accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of being the mastermind behind the recent ‘Ruto Must Go’ slogan chants that have gained traction across various parts of the country.
Speaking during a press briefing in Nairobi, Mvurya claimed that Gachagua has been secretly mobilizing groups to chant the slogan as part of a calculated political campaign against President William Ruto.
According to Mvurya, the former Deputy President has been using the slogan to incite public dissent and destabilize the government.
“These actions are not only divisive but also dangerous to our national unity. We must call out such political games for what they are—attempts to undermine the President and the progress we are making as a country,” Mvurya said.
He further urged political leaders to focus on development and unity rather than engaging in what he described as “destructive politics.”
Gachagua, who has remained largely silent about his political future since being dropped from the inner circle of President Ruto’s administration, has yet to respond to the allegations.
The accusations come amid growing political tension and speculation about shifting alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political analysts say the rift between the two leaders highlights the deepening divisions within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, which brought Ruto to power in 2022.
The situation continues to evolve, with many Kenyans watching closely to see how both the government and opposition figures respond in the coming days.
