A section of residents from Siaya County have strongly criticized their Governor, James Orengo, for what they describe as disrespectful remarks that he made during a recent funeral of George Oduor, a long term serving bodyguard of Raila.
Speaking to journalists, the residents accused Governor Orengo of embarrassing Raila through comments he made at the funeral.
The residents expressed strong support for the recent agreement between Raila’s ODM party and President Ruto’s UDA party which formalised the broad-based government.
They also asked the ODM party to take action against Governor Orengo. Some residents even suggested that the party should allow the people of Siaya to recall Orengo from office.
They further said that the Governor should apologize publicly to Raila Odinga, adding that his words were not only offensive to Raila but also to the entire Luo community.
The resident accused Orengo of working closely with the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to undermined Raila and cause chaos in Ruto’s government.
At the same time, the residents praised President Ruto for including members of the Luo community in his government.
They noted that Ruto had appointed Luos to powerful positions such as the Finance Ministry and the Office of the Attorney General, calling it a historic move.
Meanwhile, these statements come at a time when divisions are growing within the ODM party. Governor Orengo’s open criticism of the government during the funeral has upset some ODM leaders. Reports now suggest that some party members are considering moves to impeach him.
