Former Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i jetted back to the country from the United States on Thursday, 17 amid speculations over his intentions to run for President in the upcoming 2027 General Elections.
However, Dr. Matiang’i refused to address the press over his 2027 ambitions but promised to do so on a later date.
The former CS has continued to remain tight-lipped over his intentions to challenge President William Ruto.
He was welcomed by several leaders, including Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, and nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba, among others.
This came amid growing discussions on social media about Matiang’i’s intentions to challenge President Ruto in the upcoming elections—conversations that have sparked both support and opposition in equal measure.
Although elections are still about two years away, the politicians believe they must start planning early if they are to upset Ruto.
Earlier, Kioni expressed optimism that Matiang’i would easily beat dethrone Ruto in the 2027 polls.
While addressing the gathering, Kioni insisted on the need for the opposition to have a common voice regarding who to support in the next general elections, but noted that Matiang’i was the best suited to stage the fight.
Jubilee Party Chairperson Jeremiah Kioni has assured that the party will remain in the opposition and has no intention of joining hands with the Kenya Kwanza side.
Addressing the press, Kioni said that the party would remain keen on keeping the government in check until the 2027 general elections.
