A spot check by TUKO.co.ke showed that Easy Coach buses to Kisumu, Busia, and Kakamega are fully booked between Friday, April 17, and Sunday, April 19, from Nairobi as passengers troop to their rural homes to celebrate Easter.

There are a few seats left on Ena Coach that are set to be snapped up in the next few hours on routes such as Kisii, Homay, Rongo and Kisumu.

The move is likely be a major boost for local carriers such as Jambojet, Safarilink and Renegade Air that also operate on the Western Kenya route.

The carriers are equally booked, with some increasing air tickets to rake in more sales during the busy Easter season.

A Nairobi-Kisumu flight on Jambojet, on average, goes for about KSh 8,300 to KSh 12,800, and is now attracting fares of as high as KSh19,500 on Friday, April 18, for a one-way ticket.

The prices are based on the booking register for Wednesday, April 16, and are likely to change as the days go by.

“We are delighted to see our passengers book our vehicles well ahead of time. It simply shows that they trust our services,” an attendant at Guardian Bus Services told TUKO.co.ke on Wednesday, April 16.

Guardian Bus Service charges passengers KSh 1,650 to ferry passengers to Busia, Kisumu, Kakamega and Mumias from Nairobi. The prices have not been increased despite the high passenger loads experienced.

Ena Coach charges KSh 1,600 on a number of Western Kenya routes such as Kisumu, Mumias, Kakamega from Nairobi. The prices have also remained unchanged despite the high traffic volumes.

Easy Coach charges between KSh 1,400 to KSh 1,700 to ferry passengers from the city to different Western Kenya routes.

Super Metro suspends operations

In other news, Super Metro has been forced to halt operations in Nairobi.

The city PSV operator announced early this week that its fleet would not be on the road for three days starting Tuesday, April 15, following a temporary ban by the Transport Licensing Board (TLAB).

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) suspended its operating licence last month, forcing it to seek redress from TLAB.
