Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed explosive details about alleged covert negotiations with President William Ruto, claiming he secretly recorded conversations involving offers made to him by the Head of State.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on KTN News on Monday evening, Gachagua disclosed that President Ruto dispatched a senior government officer to negotiate terms with him amid growing political tensions.
“The President also sent a senior person to speak to me, and he gave me his terms. This goes against my ethics because I don’t normally record conversations, but I did record that one,” Gachagua said.
According to the former DP, the following day, the same officer informed him that the President desired a face-to-face discussion.
Gachagua claims he declined invitations to State House and Weston Hotel, instead settling on a discreet meeting point along State House Road, a meeting he also recorded.
“The day I went to the Senate, that same officer was sent to me with another offer,” he added, noting that the unnamed officer was also preserving evidence.
“If I expose him now, he will lose his job — so we’ve agreed that when he retires, we will release the information. He has recorded it as well, and it is safely stored.”
Gachagua’s revelations have intensified speculation over internal rifts within the Kenya Kwanza administration, even as the National Intelligence Service (NIS) is cautioned against targeting the unnamed officer.
