Former Minister and MP John Koech Dies

Ambassador John Koech, a veteran politician and former Cabinet Minister, has passed away after a long illness.

His family confirmed that he died on Monday while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital.

Koech, a prominent political figure from Bomet County, was best known for his long and impactful career as the Member of Parliament for Chepalungu Constituency.

He first represented the area from 1979 to 1990 and later returned to serve again from 2003 to 2007. During this time, he was widely recognized for his dedication to development, mentorship of young leaders, and advocacy for the interests of the Kalenjin community.

In addition to his parliamentary work, Ambassador Koech also held key ministerial roles in government. Under the leadership of former President Mwai Kibaki, he served as the Minister for East African Regional Cooperation from 2006 to 2007.

He was instrumental in fostering regional ties and enhancing Kenya’s role within the East African Community during a time of renewed integration efforts.

Earlier in his career, Koech also served as the Minister for Public Works between 1988 and 1989, where he oversaw infrastructure development and national construction projects.
