Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly criticized President William Ruto’s administration over what he terms as a disregard for human rights, specifically condemning abductions and extrajudicial killings during recent protests.

In a candid interview on KTN News, Gachagua stated he remains fundamentally opposed to the government’s alleged use of force against dissenting youth.

“One thing I disagree with President William Ruto on, up to today, is abductions and extrajudicial killings. Children are our flowers; you cannot kill them just because they were raising legitimate questions — questions that I had personally raised with the President,” he said.

Gachagua also revealed that his concerns on abductions and the plight of Gen Z were met with suspicion rather than action.

He added that this led to a growing rift between him and Ruto during their time in office.

“Afterwards, the President accused me of being behind the protests,” he noted.

The former DP further defended his position on contentious policy decisions, particularly those affecting the urban poor.

He cited allegations raised against him in the Senate, including claims that he opposed forced evictions along the Nairobi River and resisted abrupt relocations of traders from Wakulima Market.

“These were issues I raised while still serving as Deputy President. My stance was based on the need for humane and structured interventions,” Gachagua explained.
