A week after hosting President William Ruto during his visit to Nyerui county, Governor Mutahi Kahiga has made a huge declaration that could shape the politics of the Mt Kenya region again.
This was after the former DP Rigathi Gachagua’s allied Governor seemed to have developed a spot heart for President Ruto, despite being his regular fierce critic.
Speaking on Tuesday morning during the County’s Annual Prayer Breakfast in Nyeri, Governor Kahiga said Ruto still has a chance and that if he can convince them, then they will vote for him again in 2027.
He said he was going to work with President Ruto so that his county and Nyeri people could benefit from government developments. He added that Ruto is the president of all Kenyans and they will talk and if he convinces them, they will vote for him again
“We are going to sit down and reason together. We stop talking at each other, agree and work together. The fact that people did not shout or stop the president from doing his things and that did not change anybody’s life. Ruto went home a better person and he will be happy to come here next time. I told him boss ukikaa huko uone kitu chukua uniletee na mambo ya 2027 tutapangana, if he convinces us, we will give him, akishindwa, baas, sisi hatuna makosa. Lets pray for this county and country,” he stated
“Last week, we had a guest and I want to thank all of you for heeding to my call to come out and welcome him. Despite the bitterness of having our son impeached, you came out after I called you to welcome the president because leadership comes from God, and we participated in putting our president in State House. We voted, and we must respect the presidency. We must work with Ruto now because we rightfully deserve any development that was set aside for Nyeri. I knew these developments will not come if we throw stones,” he added
His remarks seem to contradict those of his boss,s Rigathi Gachagua, who has maintained that Mt Kenya people are done with President William Ruto and will not vote for him again in 2027 even if he tries to rescue himself.
Gachagua accused Ruto, saying Mt Kenya people hate betrayal and are done with him
