Dramatic Scenes in Parliament as 2 Women MPs Exchange Blows

A dramatic scene erupted at the Parliament Buildings on Tuesday afternoon after a physical and verbal altercation broke out between ODM-nominated MP Umi Harun and EALA Member of Parliament Falhada Iman.

The incident, which was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media, has left many Kenyans in shock and raised fresh concerns over the behavior of elected leaders.

The two MPs, both hailing from Garissa County, were seen in a heated confrontation just outside the National Assembly chambers.

The footage shows the lawmakers exchanging harsh words before the situation escalated, attracting attention from other parliamentarians and security officers stationed nearby.

Although the exact reason behind the altercation is still unclear, political insiders suggest that long-standing political tensions between the two may have contributed to the clash.

Umi Harun, who was nominated by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), and Falhada Iman, who represents Kenya at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), have reportedly had differences for some time.

Sources close to both leaders say the argument may have stemmed from political rivalry and underlying community dynamics in Garissa, where both MPs command significant influence.

Some claim the confrontation was the result of months of rising tension, with both leaders often clashing behind closed doors.

The incident has sparked a wave of reactions online, with many Kenyans expressing disappointment in the leaders’ conduct.

“How can lawmakers who are supposed to be role models behave like this in broad daylight, and at Parliament of all places?” questioned one user on X (formerly Twitter).

Others criticized the political class for setting a poor example, especially at a time when the country is facing serious challenges that require unity and leadership.

Attempts to reach both Umi Harun and Falhada Iman for comment were unsuccessful by the time of publishing.

Meanwhile, security personnel at Parliament Grounds quickly intervened to separate the two, avoiding further escalation.

It remains to be seen whether the Speaker of the National Assembly or the EALA leadership will take disciplinary action following the embarrassing public display.

Kenyans are now calling for an official investigation into the incident and demanding that all leaders, regardless of political affiliation, uphold the dignity of public office.
