The popularity of the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua undoubtedly continues to grow in Mt Kenya as the 2027 general election approaches.

Ahead of launching of his new political party in May, many politicians, business-persons and prominent personalities have joined his camp anticipating to ride on his popularity to debut or revive their political careers.

Popular Kameme FM presenters Mercy Nungari and Muthoni Wa Wainaina have not been left behind in declaring loyalty to the ex-DP who recently has been nicknamed “Wamunyoro” after his rural village in Mathira, Nyeri county.

Nungari, who co-host popular ‘Njanjo Ya Muturire’ show alongside Man Nyari on Kameme every Saturday, has announced she will vie for Kiambu Woman Representative post on Gachagua’s party.

In 2022, she ran for the seat on ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo’s Tujibebe Wakenya Party and emerged second with 212,115 votes behind UDA’s Anne Wamuratha who polled 405,402 votes.

In the third position was Kikuyu gospel musician Loise Kim (Independent) who garnered 88,086 votes, Gladys Chania (Jubilee) managed 45,441, Lydia Ndung’u of ODM got 25,597, Njeri Bakari (Chama Cha Kazi – 15,673), Mary Kirika (14,644), Lennah Koinange (Independent -10,643) and Hellen Wachiuri (Independent -2,882).

Between 2017 and 2022, Nungari served as nominated MCA in Kiambu county assembly courtesy of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party.

On the other hand, Muthoni Wa Wainaina, a presenter and sports anchor at Kameme, has hinted at vying for Women Rep in Nakuru county on Gachagua’s yet to be unveiled party in the next election.

Popularly known as Mzima Mzima, Muthoni, who is also a Mugithi singer, will seek to oust UDA’s Liza Chelule who is serving her second term.
