Rt. Rev. Willybard K Lagho, Bishop of Catholic Diocese Of Malindi, through an official letter, has directed his priests to treat politicians as ordinary christians when they attend Holy Mass.
In the said official letter, Bishop Lagho has categorically stated that, no politician who attends mass in his entire diocese, is entitled to special treatment and recognition. He has further added that, going forward, any politician attending mass in any church in Malindi will sit anywhere like other christians.
Bishop Lagho has explained in the above mentioned official letter, directing his priests to follow this directive to the latter, reminding them that if they fail to implement this rule then a priest who will break it will have to explain why he is not cooperating with church as directed.
Again, Bishop Lagho through that letter, has banned all politicians from addressing Catholic faithfuls during Holy Mass. To him, Church is not a place where politics is spoken about, it is a holy place and not a political platform. He said.
He has further indicated in the said letter that, a person who will notify church leadership earlier that he/she will be attending mass in a given Catholic Church, Malindi Diocese on a certain day, should be treated as a attention seeker, therefore person should be ignored. He said.
Bishop Lagho becomes second Kenyan Catholic Bishop to ban politicians from receiving special treatment in his entire diocese after Bishop Joseph Obanyi of Catholic Diocese Of Kakamega, banned politicians from addressing mourners in any funeral that they’ll attend and is conducted by Catholic church in his Diocese.
