TV journalist Jeff Koinange created a film in an attempt to explain the long history of his family. The writer spoke with his mother, Hilda Wambui Ngoima, at their large Kiambaa residence.
She discussed the challenges the family faced following the death of her husband, Frederick Mbiyu Koinange. Hilda Wambui Ngoima, the mother of popular TV personality Jeff Koinange, has shared her perspective on the struggles the family faced during the colonial era.
The Koinange family has roots in Kiambaa that go all the way back to the 1860s, and Jeff’s family now lives on a large piece of land there.
The journalist recently shared a video of himself, speaking to his mother in an effort to shed more light on the Koinange history.
“This land is actually owned by my mother. She has four children, was born in Githiga, and married into the Koinange family in 1959. But Jeff says her spouse passed away pretty soon after independence.
After that, Jeff gave his mother—whom he lovingly calls Nyina wa Munene or Nyina wa Kabaka—the floor. Jeff was the lastborn and only two months old when his spouse, Frederick Mbiyu Koinange, passed away on March 7, 1966, but by God’s mercy, Jeff lived.
Shiro was older than four, Koi was older than two, and my first child, Koinange, was older than a year. Ngoima claims that at the time, she was 28 years old. “I thank God I survived, even though it was really tough.”
Jeff’s mother claims that they were imprisoned by colonialists, and that his father, Mbiyu, was the son of Senior Chief Koinange’s third wife. “There has been damage to the Koinanges.
My husband and all of my mother-in-law’s children, including Paul Koinage, the father of Kiambaa MP, were also sentenced to seven years in prison. One of the sisters, Lilian, died in Kamiti.
Ngoima claims that her mother-in-law, Joyce Kagendo Koinange, was also sentenced to seven years in prison. You must lie on your bed while you make it, but we fought for it.
Despite our agony, we are grateful that God kept us safe. Kenyan said, @ngugingigi7035: “I appreciate you creating this story, Jeff,” in reaction to the video.
KK-ygh: “A lot of people don’t realize how much the Agikuyu people sacrificed to create the modern-day Kenya. Sitting with legends like Nyina wa Munene would make you cry because you will understand the suffering they endured throughout the colonial era.
Elizabeth Were-g9z: “This is historic knowledge for everyone.” @I_am_Beracah: “I’m inspired by this history! I received my diploma from Senior Chief Koinange Girls High School. The deceased Paul Koinange would often visit our school and talk to us.
