What did preacher say at Elvis Murakana’s burial?

The funeral was held on Saturday, March 29, at the family’s home in Kajiado county.

In the sermon, the priest recalled an incident that he had had last year, while driving home the message that death should not be feared as it is not a finality but a transition.

“In this parish, there is a tradition of the father meeting the chairman, who briefs him on the goings-on.

They tell you about the schedule and other details.”

According to the priest, he ended a function in the parish, and the chairman briefed him as usual.

“Little did I know that there were ants where I was standing.”

The priest was unaware of the unwelcome visitors until he was on the pulpit.

“Ants are very patient creatures. They wait until they get to the ‘promised land’.

I started the mass just like today, but midway through it, I sensed that something was not okay.”

The priest noted that Catholic fathers typically conduct mass with decorum, as they stand in one place and preach.

“I calculated my next move. Should I leave the pulpit and ask them to wait for me for a bit? I said no.”

According to the priest, he decided to borrow a leaf from the preachers in some protestant churches.

“I took the microphone and Bible and started jumping up and down,” he said as the mourners laughed.

The congregation was clueless about the ongoings, but noticed his animated sermon.

“After the service, an old lady said, Father, we have seen you preach, but today the Holy Spirit was inside you. I said glory to God.”

He called on congregants not to fear God, while realising that everyone came to live except for Jesus, who came to die.

The priest also recalled his last interaction with Elvis.

“The last time I talked to Elvis was in December. He assured me that he would graduate this year. We prayed together, did mass, and I left.”

When he learned of Elvis’s accident, the preacher visited his hospital bed.

“I told God that ‘this young man belongs to you’. I later heard of his death.”

What did Moses Wetang’ula say about Elachi?

In other news, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula praised Elachi’s kind heart.

Speaking at the burial, the speaker noted that Elachi stood with his family when he lost his mother in December 2024.

According to Wetang’ula, Elachi spent two days with his family after his mother’s burial.
