“Ridiculous Claim” Says Catholic Priest as He Refutes Raila’s Remarks that He Saved Ruto from Coup

Father Gabriel Dolan has dismissed former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s statement that he prevented a military coup against President William Ruto. The Catholic priest and activist called Raila’s claim a “ridiculous” attempt to take credit for events that did not depend on him. Raila had said his actions during the Gen-Z protests in June 2024 helped stop a dangerous political crisis.

Raila, in an interview, explained that the protests could have spiraled out of control after Ruto deployed the military. He warned that once soldiers leave their barracks, they rarely return without serious consequences. To ease tensions, he proposed a national convention bringing together thousands of youth, religious leaders, and business figures.

However, Dolan completely dismissed this version of events. He argued that the protests were a powerful youth-led movement that did not need Raila’s intervention. In his view, the demonstrations had their own strength, driven by anger over governance and economic struggles, not by political figures looking to control the narrative.

The priest also accused Raila of betrayal. He claimed that instead of standing firmly with the youth, Raila made deals with Ruto. Many activists share Dolan’s view, believing that Raila used the protests for political advantage rather than truly supporting the cause.

Dolan’s words have added fuel to the debate. Some insist Raila acted in good faith, while others say he weakened the protests by negotiating behind closed doors. The argument over what really happened continues, with many questioning who truly stood with the youth and who benefited from their struggle.
