Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has come out strongly in defense of Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, condemning those spreading salacious rumors about her. Odhiambo stated that individuals amplifying the unfounded allegations are worse than Maverick Aoko, the controversial blogger who initiated the gossip.
Speaking during a public event, Odhiambo dismissed the claims against Wanga as baseless and politically motivated. She accused detractors of attempting to tarnish the governor’s reputation instead of focusing on her leadership and development record.
“It is unfortunate that instead of engaging in constructive criticism, some people have chosen to amplify lies. Those spreading these malicious rumors are worse than the person who started them,” Odhiambo asserted.
She further called out the culture of using personal attacks against female leaders, emphasizing that women in politics often face character assassination rather than being judged on their performance. Odhiambo urged leaders and the public to reject propaganda meant to undermine women in power.
Governor Gladys Wanga, known for her firm leadership in Homa Bay County, has not publicly responded to the allegations. However, her supporters have dismissed the rumors as a desperate attempt to derail her administration.
Political analysts believe that the smear campaign could be linked to early succession battles in the county, as rival camps position themselves for future leadership contests.
Odhiambo’s remarks have ignited fresh debate about the challenges women in leadership face, with many calling for an end to gender-based political attacks. Whether the controversy will fade or escalate remains to be seen, but for now, Wanga’s allies are standing firmly by her side.
