
President William Ruto on Sunday congratulated the Under 17 Starlets team for victory over Uganda in a match held in Kenya.
Kenya’s Junior Starlets scored 3-0 against Uganda to qualify for the third round of FIFA U-17 World Cup qualifiers during a match on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium – Nairobi.
In a statement, the President said their triumph is a statement that the Junior Starlets are ready to conquer the World Cup.
“Congratulations to our Under 17 Starlets team for a resounding 3-0 victory over Uganda in Nairobi this afternoon. Your triumph is a statement that Kenya’s young talents are ready to conquer the big stage. Your passion, discipline, and teamwork have inspired a nation,” Ruto said in a statement on X.
“Let this be just the beginning. Keep the fire burning, keep striving for excellence, and let the world see what Kenya is made of. Congratulations once again!”
The first leg was scheduled for March 8 in Kampala.
The Junior Starlets celebrated a 2-0 win over their Ugandan counterparts in the opening second-round clash of the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
In the second-opening round, Starlets scored through Edinah Nasipwondi and Joan Ogola to beat the hosts at the Nakivubo Stadium in Kampala.
“We are very proud of the girls, we are very proud of the technical bench, and the secretariat that organized their travel logistics to Kampala and back. As the federation, we will continue supporting this team to the best of our ability through all means,” Ndege said.
The junior’s starlets who made their World Cup debut in the Dominican Republic in December 2024, got a bye to the second round of the qualifiers, while Uganda’s teenage cranes hammered Namibia 18-1 on aggregate to sail through.
The 9th edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be played between 17 October and 8 November, in Rabat, Morocco.
