Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has strongly dismissed a recent article published by The Standard newspaper, calling it misleading and false. The report, which accused ODM leader Raila Odinga of being a greedy watchdog in the government, sparked sharp reactions, with Kaluma among the first to speak out.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Kaluma criticized the publication, questioning its credibility and journalistic ethics. “You see why the Standard Media Group, the oldest media in East Africa, has collapsed – fake news!” he wrote. His response suggested frustration with what he believes is a deliberate attempt to tarnish Raila’s name and misrepresent political events in the country.
The Standard’s article claimed that Raila Odinga was wielding more power than even top government officials while still pretending to be in opposition. It also alleged that Raila and his allies were influencing key parliamentary committees and pushing for more Cabinet positions. However, Kaluma dismissed these claims as baseless propaganda meant to mislead Kenyans.
Kaluma’s response appears to suggest that The Standard is losing relevance because of publishing false reports.
Kenyans have weighed in on the matter, with some arguing that Raila’s influence in government is a strategic move for national unity, while others believe he is playing both sides for political gain. However, Kaluma and other Raila allies insist that the ODM leader remains committed to keeping the government in check.
