Kenya Meteorological Department Warns of Upcoming Heavy Rains

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory, warning Kenyans of rainfall expected to affect several regions starting Sunday, March 16, 2025. According to the department’s forecast, light to moderate rains will be experienced in various parts of the country, including Western Kenya, Rift Valley, the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, the South-Eastern Lowlands, and several regions along the Coast, North-Eastern, and North-Western Kenya.

The forecast suggests that while the rains will begin in some areas, isolated storms and heavy downpours may occur, signaling the potential onset of the rainy season across many parts of Kenya. The department further stated that as the week progresses, rainfall intensity is expected to fluctuate, with a brief break in the middle of the week before the rains intensify again towards the end of the week.

In its advisory, the Met Department urged the public to stay alert for potential updates as the weather patterns evolve. Residents in regions expected to receive heavy rainfall should be especially cautious, as isolated storms may cause localized flooding or disruptions. Furthermore, the weather department has highlighted that daytime temperatures are likely to remain high, surpassing 30°C in areas such as the Coast, North-Eastern, and Northwestern Kenya. Conversely, nighttime temperatures in regions like the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and Mt. Kilimanjaro could drop below 10°C.

This updated weather forecast is part of the Met Department’s ongoing efforts to inform Kenyans about changing weather conditions. While the anticipated rainfall is expected to bring much-needed relief to dry areas, the department has advised farmers and residents in vulnerable regions to take necessary precautions to minimize the impact of potential storms and fluctuating temperatures.

The department will continue to monitor the weather closely and provide further updates as needed.
