“How Did We Not Know About This?” Alinur Reacts After Raila Said He Saved Ruto From Military Coup

Raila Odinga has said that he helped stop a military coup that was planned against President William Ruto in June 2024. This is new information because nobody knew about it before. It shows that Kenya’s politics is not always stable and that leaders have to be careful to protect democracy.

The problem started on June 25, 2024, when young protesters, mostly Gen Z, broke into Parliament and destroyed things inside. After that, they planned to march to State House. The police could not control the situation, so President Ruto decided to send the military to help. But Raila Odinga was warned that this could be dangerous. Someone close to him told him that if the military comes out of the barracks, they might take over the government, and it would be hard to send them back. That is why Raila quickly took action to stop it.

Aden Duale, who is the Environment Cabinet Secretary, also said that there was a real plan to remove President Ruto from power on that same day. He did not say who was behind the plan, but he made it clear that it was a serious situation.

Nobody knows which group in the military was involved in the coup plan. Kenya’s military has always been known to stay out of politics, so this kind of news is very rare. The government has not given details about the soldiers who were part of it, maybe because they want to keep the country calm.

Also, there is no public information about what happened to the military officers who were involved. Maybe the government decided to handle the issue quietly to avoid causing fear among people. In the past, Kenya had a failed coup in 1982, led by a soldier called Hezekiah Ochuka from the Air Force. After that, the government arrested many soldiers and made big changes in the military. This time, there has been no news of such arrests, so maybe the government dealt with it in secret.

Raila Odinga’s action shows that stopping military interference in politics is important. If the military had taken over, Kenya’s democracy would have been in danger.
