There will be moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the weekend in a number of locations across the nation, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department. Rainfall would start on Friday, March 14, and last until Tuesday, March 17, according to the department’s advisory issued on Thursday, March 13.
Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi are among the counties in the Highland East region that could anticipate rainfall during this time, according to the forecast. The first two days will see moderate rain, with heavier downpours expected for the rest of the forecast period.
The agency also forecasted significant rainfall in the country’s western regions, namely in the Lake Victoria Basin and Highland West. Significant rainfall is expected to begin on Saturday, March 15, in counties including Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, and Elgeyo-Marakwet. It is recommended that residents in the impacted areas get ready for any interruptions that the intense downpours may produce.
Transportation issues, landslides in steep locations, and floods in low-lying areas could result from the rains. The public was advised by the Kenya Meteorological Department to be informed by following official updates and to take the appropriate safety measures.
Farmers are urged to use the rainy weather for planting and soil moisture conservation in areas where rain is predicted. They should be aware, though, of the potential harm that too much rain could do to crops.
It has been suggested that drivers use caution when driving during heavy rains because the roads may become slick and visibility may be compromised. Flash floods could result from drainage systems’ inability to handle the elevated water levels in cities like Nairobi.
