People’s Liberation Party Leader Martha Karua has strongly criticized President William Ruto’s government, saying it is worse than the rule of former President Daniel Moi.
She said that Moi had once warned Kenyans that they would miss him, and now that warning has come true. Karua stated that she personally misses late President Moi owing to Ruto’s poor leadership.
“Moi warned us that we will miss him one day and I have already missed him because Dr Ruto is worse, worse than the worst time of Moi’s era,” Karua said.
Speaking during an interview, Karua condemned the government for serious human rights violations, accusing it of abductions, executions, and torture. She said the state was oppressing its people in ways that had not been seen before.
Karua also spoke about demolitions of houses across the country under Ruto’s administration. She pointed out that even people who had legal title deeds were losing their homes without any proper alternative being given to them. She further accused the government of using environmental concerns as an excuse to displace people in large numbers. She said this was not just an isolated case affecting a few individuals but a massive operation leaving thousands homeless.
“The kind of violation of human rights, abductions, executions, torture, demolition of houses of people even having titles under the guise of environmental concern and no alternative is given to these people and this is a mass demolition, not one random person here and there,” Karua said.
She went on to describe the current situation in Kenya as something out of a nightmare.
“The kind of things going on is like a script from hell,” she added.
